Act Right - Act Wrong

A Workshop by Mara Purl (with Christian Medovich)

Actors are always eager to “act right” – and yet, sometimes arrive on stage only to discover they are “acting wrong.” To address this problem, Mara Purl created a two-leveled seminar: the first segment was how to “act right;” the second segment was how to “act wrong.” Why tell students how not to act, when they experience it for themselves? To involve the entire group of apprentices, a large group scene was needed. And to take advantage of synergy with Dakin Mathews workshop, Shakespeare was chosen. Coordinating their two programs, Mara and Dakin decided upon the party scene at the Capulet home that takes place as “Romeo and Juliet” begins.
